Last weekend we had our Grand Rapids Youth Art Show for kids with Disabilities called Value by Hopelynd. What an incredible day it turned out to be! Fifteen young artists filled the space with color, creativity, and courage as they shared their artwork with friends, family, and community members. Each piece told a story about expression, individuality, and the unique ways our kids see and experience the world.
This was our very first event for Hopelynd, and we couldn’t have asked for a better start. With 159 people coming through the doors, the room was buzzing with encouragement and connection. Parents beamed with pride, kids smiled from ear to ear as people admired their art, and guests had the chance to see the true value of inclusion in the arts.
One parent shared their experience, saying:
“I don’t even know how to put into words how much last night meant to us as parents. We got to watch our son thrive — truly thrive — and that’s something we don’t get to see often enough. He walked around that venue with confidence and joy.
But the real gift of the night wasn’t the show or the art — it was the friendships. Watching him laugh, connect, and be fully himself with others who just get him was something we’ll never forget. He found his people — friends who saw him, accepted him, and accepted every part of who he is.
Thank you Hopelynd, for creating such a beautiful, welcoming space and experience. You gave these kids the chance to shine and to find friendship — and that is the most priceless gift of all.“
Our goal with Value was simple: to give kids with disabilities a space to be seen, celebrated, and supported for their creativity, not their challenges. The turnout and love from our community showed that this mission matters deeply to so many.
We’re filled with gratitude for everyone who came, donated, volunteered, or helped make this event possible. This is just the beginning for Hopelynd, and we’re already dreaming up what’s next.
To everyone who showed up to celebrate these incredible young artists, thank you. You helped make Value more than an art show. You made it a movement.
